Trending Products

In the last few years, there have been new products being advertised for landscaping. We have researched and kept our eye on the impact these new materials would make. We still feel that environmentally friendly and natural products are the best choice. We have decided not to carry these items due to our concerns. We have been in business since 1990 which has given us the opportunity to see many alternative products come and go, and believe nothing can compete with the products that mother nature provides. Listed below are two of the new items in the industry.
This information has helped us come to our conclusion.

Rubber Mulch (coloured)

Pros:
  • Easy to apply and maintain.
  • Holds colour longer.

Cons:
  • Cannot be mixed in the soil as it does not break down; would require total removal.
  • Hard to remove fall leaves from the surface. Decomposing material takes away from it's clean appearance.
  • Gives off strong rubber odour, especially in the hot sun.
  • Holds heat; does not retain moisture. Plants would require more care such as watering, to remain healthy.
  • Is a petroleum product and is very flammable.
  • Possible choking hazard for small children and pets.
  • Retains heat making it hot to walk on or touch. More expensive than alternatives such as wood mulch.
  • The only way to get rid of it, is to take to a landfill, at a cost.

Artificial Turf

Pros:
  • Easy to install.
  • Keeps its vibrant green colour, even in drought situations.
  • Virtually maintenance free (no mowing, raking, aerating, fertilizing, etc.)

Cons:
  • Very expensive.
  • Has a carbon footprint (does not put oxygen back, like natural plants).
  • The material underneath is subject to erosion, as there are no root systems holding it in place. Retains heat.
  • Does not absorb melting snow or rain.
  • The only way to get rid of it, is to take to a landfill, at a cost.
